Working on different ways to document events is one of the things I do at the Press Association. During the riots I shot both video and still photographs and what we needed was a way to combine these two elements in a moving film for the internet. I came up with a technique for converting a still photograph into a 3 dimensional space that you can actually move around. Describing this makes no sense so have a look at the following video and at around the 30 second point you should see what I mean:
I didn’t just compute that single camera move, the actual image is now stored in 3 dimensions and I can create whatever camera move I think suits the image. I tried one recently when I actually moved down the street and it was bizarre, because you are actually walking into what was a 2 dimensional picture.
